Staple launches the film issue with a Staple and Word! Film Special at Phoenix Square, Leicester: new work by Lydia Towsey, Jayne Stanton, Maria Taylor, Pam Thompson and ‘the ghost poet’ set to film backdrops and visuals by Word’s regular film-maker Keith Allott. Starts 8pm, but arriving earlier is recommended if you want to take part in the open mic slots. An afternoon ‘WORDshop’ will take place earlier the same day (from 4 – 6pm) in one of Phoenix’s resource rooms, drawing on film themes, and led by Pam Thompson. Staple Magazine presents Alyson Stoneman & Milk, Pam Thompson and Sureshot with Mike Sole as part of Leicester Lyric Lounge in a lunchtime session of words and music, reflecting the themes in Staple 72: The Music Issue this Spring. Afternoon Tea with Jenny Joseph as part of Southwell Poetry Festival, with the poet behind ‘Warning’, ‘Persephone’ and her latest collection, ‘Nothing Like Love’, reading from and talking about her work. 3pm – 4.30pm. The editor of Staple Magazine will host a Q&A session at Metro Café, Beeston, with a new generation of US poets including Zachary Carlsen, James Cihlar, Shana Youngdahl, Eireann Lorsung and Laressa Dickey at 6 p.m. Event is FREE and open to the public. Staple has curated a night of new work from members of Nottingham Writers’ Studio and friends, with Rowland Nelken, Maria Taylor, John Micallef, Andrew ‘Mulletproof Poet’ Graves, Peter Branson and Roberta Dewa: session takes place at Southwell Library, 6pm to 7pm, and is followed by Siobhan Logan’s one-woman show at 7.30pm.
